WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?

A while ago I heard a hilarious story about the little boy who came home after school. As they sat down at the table, he popped the question – Where did I come from!

He was lucky because his daddy prepared for this one a while ago.

After the meal, they went outside, and Daddy told him everything about the birds and the bees and where babies come from.

As the story continued, his little eyes got bigger and bigger.

With much confusion on his little face, he told his daddy, Wow! That’s weird. We had a new boy come to our school today, and he said he comes from Johannesburg!

Obviously, this dad was far too excited about sharing his knowledge with the little one who was everything but ready to hear about it!

I had a similar experience…

Our whole family got into the car and just as everyone was settled, I leaned forward and asked … Where did I come from?

Immediately my two older sisters started giggling.

My dad turned around, looked me straight in the eyes, and told me the most amazing story ever!

You see, they went to the mountains, found the most beautiful little monkey, took it home, shaved it, dressed it, and voilà! There I was!

Later, I found out that some of my friends had even more amazing stories … one was brought by a stork … the other was bought at the hospital … some were picked out personally, and many more amazing beginnings.

It actually took many years to discover the truth of my origin.

Have you discovered yours yet?

LET’S SEE WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT OUR TRUE ORIGIN

I’m going to share with you one of my favourite Psalms in the Bible:

Ps 139.13-18 (Amplified Bible)

13 For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.

·       Take note: it is God who formed your inner parts and knit you together in your mother’s womb. He was deliberately and actively involved in your creation.

14 I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.

·       The question is, does your soul know very well that you are fearfully and wonderfully made?

·       What things do you tell yourself about yourself, especially when you look into the mirror? Do you exclaim and praise God for the wonderful works He’s done in you? Or do you perhaps complain about everything that is wrong according to you?

15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was being formed in secret,

And intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colours] in the depths of the earth.

·       The Master Creator of the Universe embroidered you with many colours! I’m not referring to your hair, eyes, or skin colour. I’m referring to the colourful talents, skills, abilities, yes, even spiritual gifts, that God built into your being.  He gave you a unique set of attributes, which include your intellect type, personality traits, and even your love languages. You are truly colourfully embroidered as a masterpiece!

16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were appointed for me, When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape].

·         God had a plan for your life right from the beginning. He determined your lifespan, where and when you would live, and every little detail of your life.

17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

18 If I could count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.

·         God has beautiful thoughts about you and your life. The Bible tells us they are so numerous, they can’t even be counted. Have you ever tried to count just a handful of sand grains? It is impossible. Now imagine all the sand grains in the world… God’s beautiful thoughts for you, outnumber them!

This next verse confirms the vastness of God’s thoughts for your life:

Jeremiah 29.11 (Amp) – For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

·       God’s beautiful plans for you include peace, well-being in every area of your life, a future, and hope! Something to look forward to. Something to be excited about.

·       Often we experience bad things in life and immediately our enemy, the devil, starts to spread his lies … Look what God has done … How could a God of love do such terrible things … Why didn’t God prevent things from happening, He definitely doesn’t care …

·       We learn the truth about this in John 10.10: The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but I came so that you can have life in abundance!

·       Don’t believe Satan’s lies. He is the murderer, the thief, the destroyer. Jesus came to show us God’s love, acceptance, and abundance.

I love the beautiful song by Josh Baldwin, Made for More. Have you ever heard it? His message is that you are made for more, and I want to enforce that truth in your life today.

You were made for more! More than the lies the enemy’s told you up to now.

More than the expectations of parents or peers.

More than your own crippling thoughts.

You were made to reflect God’s glory and grace on this earth.

You were made because He has a plan and a purpose for you and your life!

He created you, first in His heart, secondly in your mother’s womb, and thirdly IN Christ Jesus when you became a born-again child of God. Look at this beautiful verse:

Ephesians 2.10 (Amp Classic) – For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

·       Remember, you were first created as a human being in your mother’s womb, and then recreated as a new creation, at your spiritual re-birth.

·       This verse tells us that we are God’s own handiwork. The Greek word, poiema, refers to that which is manufactured, a product, a design produced by an artisan.

·       Our Creator God is the Artisan that designed you as His most precious possession. You are His Masterpiece! His most beautiful poem! His favourite song!

The amazing part is that we don’t have to deserve it. We don’t have to work for it or impress God with anything. In fact, we can’t. Nothing we do will ever be good enough to impress God. The only thing that might “impress” God is when we accept what Jesus has done for us on the cross by faith.

The “good works” Paul refers to here, don’t mean we have to do good works for God to love or accept us. We do these good works because we are already loved and accepted. That’s a big difference!

Remember, it isn’t anything you did, do, or ever will do that makes God love and accept you. God decided to do this even before the foundation of the world.  Look at this verse:

Ephesians 1.4 (Amp Classic) – Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.

·       Everything concerning you was done and completed even before the foundation of the world. God carried you in His heart, even before He created the moon, and the stars, and the earth.

When God called Jeremiah into his ministry, He said to him:

Jeremiah 1.5 (Amp Classic) – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

·         Before God formed you in your mother’s womb a couple of things happened:

o   He knew you, from the inside out …

o   He approved of you as His chosen instrument …

o   He consecrated you and set you apart for His special purpose …

o   He appointed you to fulfil the ministry He has created you to fulfil …

·       I want you to understand something very clearly … God isn’t sitting in heaven, watching all we do on earth, and then, one day, sees someone doing something nice and then decides to call that one into ministry.  NO! God carved out your ministry even before He created the world.

·       Only then, He created you, and embroidered you with all the various colours – talents, abilities, skills, intellect, to fulfil that call. That’s not all …

God decided when and where you would be born …

He determined the colour of your skin …

He said where you would be located …

He decided on your language, your body type, your preferences, and everything that makes you YOU.

You are the exact fit for the purpose God has for your life!

TO WRAP IT UP

·       Hopefully you discovered your true origin today and know now that you existed in God’s heart even before the foundation of the world.

And no, the stork didn’t bring you, you weren’t a monkey at first, and you are definitely not here by accident!

·       May I remind you … despite any feelings of not being good enough, God sees you as valuable and He has a special plan for your life.

·       Don’t allow feelings … thoughts … or opinions … to determine the direction of your life. Believe God, and believe His word.

He created you for a purpose.

You are destined for greatness!
